When I close my eyes, I remember your smile,
it closes the miles between us.
I’ll never forget my first
If it was a song, I would remember it verse by verse.
Before the scene was more rehearsed
Looking back on the memories between us
Engrossed in the feelings that made me want to burst
with love and affection, it was all surrounded by my protection
and love for you, baby girl.
You stole my heart
and I played my part as your protector and caregiver
You reminded me of what it means to live
to give, to love, the second time around
Embracing my crown as your grandmother
Now as we converse about the time we spent with each other
I often wonder if you can really remember those times
I was at my prime when it came to you
and when I reflect on those moments
they are just sublime.
That’s why when it was time for me to take my flight
and leave your sight
My eyes released sadness that my heart couldn’t fathom
Four years of us flashed before me
Kayla and Nana . . .the apple of grandma’s eyes
It left a bore in my heart, but who you were and what you meant to me, stored so much more
I couldn’t ignore the thoughts that I adored so much . . .
I was there when you entered this world . . .
February 9, 2007
I was there when you said your first words . . .
I was there to hear your giggles and feel your wiggles . . .
Each moment with you is a gift to be remembered.
The memories we make and the time we take
brings me feelings that makes my heart shake.
It’s only fair that I take the time to express my zest
for all of your caresses
Those hugs and kisses they bring me blessings
They're the fruits of my labor
The love flows from God through me
from my daughter to you
endlessly.
Let's keep it flowing anew
I don't want you to ever forget the depths of my love for you.
It runs deep,
and it never reaches its peak.
